I Am That I Am Hebrew Translation

The i am in john 8 58 is a desperate mistranslation because even if we take it to be right it still doesn t say i am what i am.
All what he have today is a greek translation for the original. Throughout the old testament in the original hebrew god is known by his four letter name yhwh. If jesus truly wanted to say i am in reference to exodus 3 then he should ve said before adam or humanity i am what i am. I am that i am is a common english translation of the hebrew phrase א ה י ה א ש ר א ה י ה ehyeh ăšer ehyeh ʔehˈje ʔaˈʃer ʔehˈje also i am who i am i will become what i choose to become i am what i am i will be what i will be i create what ever i create or i am the existing one.
Other versions of the bible use the i am who i am wording. I will be that i will be geddes is more literal but less idiomatic since the hebrew was the simplest possible form of the verb substantive. The septuagint αγώ εἰμι ὁ ὤν explains rather than translates. Jesus can mean either that i am from above verse 23 that i am the one sent from the father or the messiah 7 18 28 that i am the light of the world 8 12 that i am the deliverer from the bondage of sin 8 28 31 36 that i am without supplying a predicate in the absolute sense as the jews deuteronomy 32 39 used the language of jehovah cf.
I am because i am boothroyd is wrong since the word asher is certainly the relative. God wanted to assure moses and israel that god would become what they would need him to become in using the words i am that i am god used an expression to reveal to moses a promise and pledge found in his name. I am that i am no better translation can be given of the hebrew words.
